1960's Ulysse Nardin Vintage 1904 $20 Gold Double Eagle Coin Watch - 18K Gold

Ulysse Nardin

Item No. 6060

Owned by a number of U.S. Presidents, the gold coin watch is a true American luxury icon. First released in 1965 at the Basel Fair, these treasured watches combine a timeless elegance with a very distinctive luxury character.

The rare Ulysse Nardin coin watch showcased in today's offering is an all original example of one of those special pieces. Its case is crafted from a majestic, vintage $20 Liberty "Double Eagle" gold coin.

The historic Double Eagle coin, which was first struck in 1850 as a result of the California gold rush, offers the highest gold content of any regular issue U.S. gold coin of its era and possesses one of the most arresting reverses on any United States coin: a dauntless eagle, its wings fully spread. This gleaming Double Eagle gold coin keepsake from America's past reigned as King of American coins from 1850 to 1907 and remains a tangible reminder of our rich, hard-money heritage.

A coin-like fluted edge enhances the watch's styling and the simple hands keep the focus on the beauty of the coin. Each coin has been in circulation and contains imperfections which add to the individual character of each watch. Unlike more modern examples from other company's like Corum that often feature quartz movements, Nardin equipped this watch with a high grade ultra-thin handwound movement.

Of the numerous gold coin watches we have seen from the likes of Corum, Piaget, Audemars Piguet, Patek Philippe, Vacheron & Constantin, Rolex, and various other luxury and lesser makers, interestingly this is only the third example we can ever recall seeing that was made by Ulysse Nardin.

It is all original.

The case is in very good condition with light wear and the usual depression by the hinge commonly found on these. The dial is original and near mint. And the ultra thin Ulysse Nardin movement is keeping time within approx. one second per hour.

Included with the purchase is a one-year C.O.T. warranty on the movement and its function and a custom printed Connoisseur of Time Certificate of Authenticity.

If you are looking for a watch with a rich, historical legacy, look no further. To buy a comparable gold coin watch new today would cost close to $20,000 - and it wouldn't have close to the charisma of this majestic, vintage original.
